This past Monday on WWE RAW featured a sensational promo segment between Paul Heyman and Cody Rhodes. Heyman confronted Rhodes and made The American Nightmare’s WrestleMania 39 main event match with Roman Reigns deeply personal. Rhodes won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match to earn a shot at The Tribal Chief’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California.
Paul Heyman interrupted Cody Rhodes’ promo, congratulating him on his Royal Rumble win on behalf of himself and Roman Reigns. Rhodes didn’t remain silent as he noted that his late father Dusty Rhodes had a nickname for The Advocate. Cody expressed his respect for Heyman for helping Dusty regain his confidence in ECW.
The segment then took a sudden bitter turn as Paul Heyman declared that although Cody Rhodes was Dusty’s favorite son, Roman Reigns was the son the late WWE Hall of Famer had always wished to bear.
A disturbed Cody replied that his goal is to win the coveted WWE Universal Championship from Reigns at WrestleMania, but everybody has a habit of making the feuds personal. Rhodes stated that Reigns, and not Heyman, will pay when he dethrones him at the SoFi Stadium in April.
Speaking on WWE’s The Bump, former Women’s Champion Bayley who suffered a loss at the hands of Becky Lynch in a Steel Cage match on the February 6th episode of RAW, declared that her comments on The Man were warranted. Bayley disliked the promo between Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman, likely due to it taking away from her own match.
“Mine were warranted, they deserve that if it comes up. Paul Heyman has been around a long time and so has Cody (Rhodes), obviously, he comes from a whole wrestling family. But for me, Dusty is very special to me, so for me, it hit a little too hard. I wasn’t a fan.”
With WrestleMania 39 still almost one-and-a-half months away, Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman are expected to come face to face again. With The Bloodline now crumbling, it remains to be seen how Cody takes advantage of Reigns’ unfavorable developments on the Road To WrestleMania.
