Mia Yim had a lot of potential in WWE, especially seeing how she had a solid run in NXT. Unfortunately for her, that was all ruined after she was called up to the main roster. She was eventually released from WWE after the company had nothing for her following Retribution’s split. She has been back in WWE now for a while, and WWE even changed up her name in a big way. Yim also explained the significance behind her name change in WWE.
As seen on a previous week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Mia Yim got a new name, as she is now known as Michin. It was initially supposed to be a nickname but then became her new name in a big way.
While speaking to Wrestling Inc., Mia Yim commented on her name change, noting she was “comfortable” with both names. It seems that her mother used to call her that as a child.
“I’ve been responding to both, and my mom’s been calling me Michin since I was a kid.”
Her new ring name is derived from Mia Yim’s Korean roots, with “Michin” meaning “crazy,” and is a common name her mother referred to her when she was growing up.
‘My mother’s Korean, so it’s not technically a nickname, but she would always call me and my sister “Michin,'” Yim explained. “So now that it’s a thing on WWE, she is so excited. I picked her up yesterday and she was just like, ‘Oh, Michin.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah. I know.'”
WWE has updated its programming and social media to reflect the name change, but her bio on the official website still reads as Mia Yim. We will have to wait and see how Mia Yim will be booked in the coming weeks. For the time being, she is just happy to be working in the company again.
