Vince McMahon ruled over WWE for decades before his momentary retirement last year. During all that time, McMahon made it clear that he was against a wrestler’s union in the company. In fact, WWE even blacklisted wrestlers for even mentioning a union.
A union in professional wrestling has been a controversial topic for many years. The likes of Andrew Yang even tried to get wrestlers to unionize. Hulk Hogan also squashed that idea years ago when Jesse Ventura tried to bring it up within WWE.
While speaking on Story Time with Dutch Mantell, Jake Hager revealed that he was instructed to avoid discussing contracts or unions. Despite being a heavily debated topic for many years, a wrestling union has yet to be established. He then alleged that WWE blacklisted wrestlers for even mentioning a union.
“While I was there, that was like the four-letter that you never [don’t say it] yeah. They were like, ‘don’t talk about your contract and don’t talk about anything having to do with a union.’ Otherwise, you’ll get blacklisted,”
Hager went on to say that he had seen someone blacklisted who tried to “get people together,” although he stated he couldn’t remember exactly who it was. It seems that the subject has died down a bit following WWE’s big 3rd party contracts controversy, but it could come back someday.
