WWE has a lot of things going on behind the scenes, and their Superstars can also have their own schedules. This is especially true for part-timers like Edge, because he also has an acting career going on top of his WWE Superstar status. That apparently caused an issue for Edge at the Royal Rumble.
The Mountain Dew Pitch Black match went down at the Royal Rumble between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight. The original report stated that this match would be Edge vs Finn Balor instead, but that didn’t happen.
The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Edge was originally thought to work this big Royal Rumble match, but that didn’t happen. He was filming Percy Jackson and The Olympian, and could not make the build for that match.
The reason the at one time talked about Brood Edge vs. Demon Balor Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble didn’t happen is because Edge was filming a television show until this past week and thus couldn’t do the WWE television to build up the match. He was filming “Percy Jackson and The Olympian,” a Disney + series where he will play Ares, the Greek God of War
Edge was still able to make a return at the Royal Rumble, where he disrupted Judgment Day’s plans for a bit. Then Judgment Day eliminated the Rated R Superstar in semi-quick fashion.
The WWE Hall of Famer showed up on RAW the next night, alongside Beth Phoenix. It appears that a mixed tag team match will be in the future at the Elimination Chamber event, so fans have not seen the last of this angle.
We will have to see what Edge does with WWE for the remainder of 2023, but he certainly got this year off to a busy start. Until then, keep checking back with Ringside News for more.
