Brock Lesnar Wanted Sable To Leave WWE Before They Could Get Married

Rena Marlette Lesnar, better known by her ring name Sable, was among the most popular WWE divas of the Attitude Era. She has had two stints with WWE, and her return to the company happened quickly, considering the ugly fallout of her first departure. It was during her second run in WWE that Sable crossed paths with her current spouse, Brock Lesnar.

Sable started her wrestling journey in 1996 by serving as the manager of her ex-husband Marc Mero in WWE. She eventually evolved into a singles wrestler and won the Women’s Championship in 1998. She dropped the title the following year and parted ways with WWE.

Sable’s first exit from WWE in June 1999 was nothing less than controversial. The former wife of Marc Mero sued WWE for $110 million for alleged sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. Sable later reduced the amount she was seeking in damages and agreed to an out-of-court settlement in August 1999.

In 2003, Sable returned to WWE, where she met her current husband Brock Lesnar. A year later, she left WWE for the second time. This time, the departure was on amicable terms, stating she wanted to get married to Lesnar and spend more time with her family.

According to Brock Lesnar in his book Death Clutch: My Story of Determination, Domination, and Survival, The Beast Incarnate wanted Sable to quit WWE before they tied the knot. This was during a time when The Beast Incarnate was no longer with Vince McMahon’s company. Without any second thought, Sable complied with Lesnar’s request.

“I wanted to marry Rena. However, before I could do this, I needed her to get out of WWE. ‘If we want a relationship,’ I told her, ‘neither one of us can work for that company. We both know the long-term side effects of everything there.’ That was my only demand. Nothing else. Just that. And so she left World Wrestling Entertainment. She had worked so hard to get back into that company, and now she was leaving it again, except this time she was giving up her career for me. It couldn’t have been an easy decision.”

Brock Lesnar and Sable initially got engaged in 2004 but their engagement was called off in early 2005. The couple was engaged again in January 2006 and married on May 6, 2006. They are still together as a happily married couple, and parents, in Canada. Although Lesnar still ventures to WWE for the right payday, Sable hasn’t been seen by WWE fans for a long time.

We’ll have to see if Sable ever makes her way back to WWE for any reason. It turns out that her exit from the company was for a very good reason, the last time she bid WWE farewell.
