Cody Rhodes recently made his return to WWE at the Royal Rumble last Saturday after being out of action due to a major pectoral injury. Rhodes was the 30th entrant and prevailed over the 1st entrant, Gunther. The American Nightmare laid out the challenge against reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Now that The American Nightmare has earned himself a spot at the grandest stage of them all, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding his plans should he be successful at his attempt at the Tribal Chief’s title. Rhodes recently addressed the issue.
On the night after the Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes took to Instagram, where he shared a photo of the Winged Eagle WWE Championship. This got a lot of people talking about the fate of the esteemed title.
Cody Rhodes previously spoke about bringing the old title back when he appeared on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull session. The American Nightmare did something similar when brought back the old Intercontinental title during his first WWE run.
Rhodes recently appeared on WWE’s The Bump, where he was asked to explain his IG post. The American Nightmare spoke about how fitting it would be to hold the title that had escaped the hands of his father for so long at the grandest stage of them all.
“Through my youth, the WWE that I was watching was really synonymous with the Winged Eagle. I think a lot of people love the Winged Eagle design. Some people love the big eagle, but the Winged Eagle was the one for me, and today’s design with the giant W is also incredibly special because it’s a walking billboard for the promotion. It was just a pipe dream. I post that and I don’t want people to think I’m calling a shot.
I don’t want people to think I’m going into business for myself. The reality is, I was able to change the Intercontinental Championship once before and it seemed absurd. If I’m able to get to the finish line, the biggest WrestleMania of all-time, SoFi in Hollywood, If I’m able to get to the finish line and get my hands on these things that have alluded my family up until now it would just be kind of a fun, maybe it’s just a pipe dream, maybe it’s just thought, a glimmer, but it would be fun to say, ‘Let’s just boil them down and bring back the Winged Eagle.’ This is just me talking.”
Several WWE stars have introduced their own versions of World Titles such as John Cena’s spinning WWE Championship and Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Smoking Skull. Rhodes however has something else in mind when he finally gets his hands on the belt.
