Trish Stratus is one of the most iconic wrestlers in WWE history. The Hall of Famer has plenty of accolades under her belt, having held the WWE Women’s Championship 7 times throughout her career. Alongside Lita, Trish Stratus was among the first women to main event Monday Night RAW. Their efforts in the ring paved the way for modern women wrestling. It is no doubt they are an inspiration to all the women competing in the ring today.
SmackDown Superstar Zelina Vega was a huge fan of both Lita and Trish Stratus growing up. Vega has also claimed that Stratus played a major part in her journey to become a WWE superstar.
Zelina Vega most recently appeared on Anna Faris is Unqualified where she discussed Trish Stratus’ influence on her during her early years. The SmackDown superstar recalled her first meeting with the Hall of Famer.
In her first interaction with Stratus, Vega nervously blurted out that she hated her growing up. The Hall of Famer seemed to take it quite well, as she replied with a “thank you.”
“When I met Trish Stratus, [she] was one of the people that influenced me a lot when I decided to do this. When I met her, for some reason, the first thing — because I was so nervous — the first thing I said was, ‘Oh my God, I hated you growing up,’ and she’s like, ‘Oh, thank you.’”
Zelina Vega acknowledged how that statement could come off as ridiculous to other people. She went on to explain how it was meant as a statement of praise to Stratus.
“That interaction, to normal people, made absolutely no sense at all. But for us, it just made perfect sense. It was just such a compliment to her because I was like, ‘Man, you really got me to hate you because I loved Lita so much, and you just found ways to make me hate you.’”
Trish Stratus was last seen in a singles match against Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam 2019. The Hall of Famer ended up submitting to Flair in her hometown of Toronto.
Vega on the other hand recently appeared in the Women’s Royal Rumble match last Saturday, where she put on quite a show before being eliminated by Lacey Evans. For more updates, stay tuned to Ringside News.
