The 2023 Royal Rumble event was full of surprises. There is one thing that has been consistent at the rumble event every year, and that is surprise entrants in the namesake match. WWE’s premium live event did not disappoint this year, and many surprising names popped up in the 30-person over-the-top-rope battle royal. One of those names includes former NXT UK star, Piper Niven.
Piper Niven was once in NXT UK, but she debuted on RAW as Eva Marie’s protege, with her ring name being changed to Doudrop. Her partnership with Marie was regarded and she became a fixture on Monday Night RAW. However, she went on a hiatus in September 2022, later revealed due to injury before resurfacing as a surprise entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble this weekend. PWInsider reported that Piper Niven would once again be on RAW as a member of the women’s division.
“Piper Niven, who officially returned at the Royal Rumble and looked really good, will be working for the Raw brand going forward.”

Piper Niven, as a young girl kept her professional wrestling a secret from her female friends. Niven’s companions believed that it was a male-dominated sport with less or no scope for women.
That did not stop Piper Niven from pursuing her dreams and she made her wrestling debut somewhere around 2007. She gained experience on the independent circuit before arriving in WWE, as a part of the Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017, right after her release from World of Sport Wrestling.
Despite making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament, Piper Niven was not seen for the next two years. Niven finally signed with WWE in 2019 and was assigned to compete in the NXT UK brand.
After achieving moderate success in the UK, Niven came up to the main roster in 2021.
Piper Niven reverted to her original ring name when she returned at the Royal Rumble, effectively dropping the ‘Doudrop’ character. Judging by her entire outlook and rumble performance, she could prove to become a top asset for the flagship show.
