Pat McAfee made his shocking return to WWE at the Royal Rumble premium live event this past Saturday. Michael Cole was genuinely surprised to see his colleague once again join him on the announcer’s table. For those who don’t know, McAfee had been missing out on WWE television due to his commitments with ESPN College GameDay.

Sean Sapp provided an update on Pat McAfee’s in-ring future from behind Fightful’s paywall. According to the report, WWE officials are hopeful that the SmackDown color commentator will wrestle in the foreseeable future now that he’s back to fulfilling his WWE duties.

Pat McAfee was originally pitched for a Royal Rumble spot, as he confirmed our report. Michael Cole and Corey Graves both did not know that he was coming out. We’re told that a private jet brought McAfee in the day of the show. WWE are hopeful that they can have him wrestle again this year.
