WWE’s road to WrestleMania 39 is kicking off with the 2023 Royal Rumble event. Fans never know who might show up for a shocking return, and a couple of names are likely. Now, we have word that an unexpected name is backstage and ready for their return. This is your huge spoiler warning, so please turn away if that’s not your thing.
PW Insider has confirmed that Nia Jax is backstage at the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas, and will be competing in tonight’s Royal Rumble match.
“Former WWE Raw Women’s Champion Nia Jax is backstage at the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas and will be competing in the Women’s Royal Rumble Match tonight, PWInsider.com has confirmed. I reported on my Elite audio this past Monday that there had been scuttlebutt among some in the company that she would be working the show, but at the time we weren’t able to 100% confirm. Well, now, we can,” per PWInsider.
While Nia Jax will be competing in the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, The Rock’s cousin still hasn’t signed a new deal with WWE and is only working this one match as of writing this article.
Following Nia Jax’s release from WWE, she has not stepped back in the ring. However, she was at one point advertised for the British promotion that former WWE tag team Authors of Pain looked to run, but nothing came of it.
Nia Jax signed an NXT deal with the company back in 2014. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing in at 272 pounds, Jax is a formidable force in the ring. She is known for her powerful and athletic in-ring style, as well as her intimidating presence. Jax quickly made a name for herself in WWE’s women’s division after being promoted to the main roster in 2016, winning the Raw Women’s Championship in 2017 and 2018. She has also held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Shayna Baszler in 2021.
However, Nia Jax was quite prone to injuring herself and her opponents in the ring. Despite her success, WWE decided to release her in April 2021. Following her release, Jax was offered a chance to compete in last year’s Women’s Royal Rumble match, but turned it down. It looks like she may be getting the same opportunity again.
This is certainly an unexpected event, especially since Nia Jax said over and over again that she’s done with pro wrestling. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we keep you updated on this story as it develops.
