Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is widely considered one of the most successful and popular professional wrestlers of all time. He has accomplished numerous feats within the industry, including becoming one of the highest-paid actors in the world. There are plans for him to compete at WrestleMania this year, if he can make the show. However, The Rock still has not decided on his WrestleMania 39 match.
For a very long time now, fans have been wondering when Roman Reigns and The Rock will battle each other at WrestleMania. Clearly, WWE has plans for both of them and fans continue to be excited at the prospect of the match finally taking place.
Many believe a match between the two top stars would become one of the greatest matches in the history of WrestleMania. Despite all the hype, the match is still on the top of many fans’ dream match lists.
Last year, Roman Reigns even called out The Rock during a WWE live event. In fact, The Rock’s WWE return is 100% in the plans. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock’s status for WrestleMania 39 is not set in stone.
It was also noted that the decision ultimately comes down to whether The Rock will get adequate time to prepare for in-ring action and get into the shape required to wrestle again.
“We were told that unless he changes his mind in the next few days, since a deadline for Mania plans is coming, that he’s indicated he won’t have time to get into the kind of shape he feels he needs to be in to do a main event match with Roman Reigns, but kept the door open for something in the future. Of course it is a possibility that it’s something being kept a secret from everyone.
WWE has always had a backup direction this year given they were aware Johnson was not a sure thing for some time, and as time went on and he didn’t agree, felt the likelihood had lessened. I don’t know that he’s officially turned it down, but the only indication is that it was considered less likely than a few months ago.
Johnson right now has different projects going on, most importantly the launching of the XFL which debuts the weekend of 2/18 and he will be very heavily involved with the promotion of the league. He had said he would need to have training time to be able to get in ring shape. So his decision comes down to his belief of having adequate time to prepare.”
Ringside News exclusively reported that WWE has decided on their WrestleMania 39 card. We also reported in December that creative was pitching alternative ideas in case The Rock can’t make it.
Vince McMahon’s WWE return will also not affect The Rock’s plans for WrestleMania 39. There is also the belief that The Rock’s absence from WrestleMania 39 would not be a loss for WWE. Regardless, WWE still has huge plans for The Great One at the Show of Shows and that’s all that matters right now.
