The Nature Boy Ric Flair is not only one of the greatest legends in the business, but a dear friend to many. He recently visited an old member of the Four Horsemen faction, Steve McMichael.

Steve McMichael, also known more commonly as Mongo, started his career in sports back in the 1980s, playing collegiate and then professional football. However, it was in 1995 that Mongo decided to pursue a career in the world of professional wrestling.

Mongo started his career as a wrestling commentator, during some early appearances for WWE and then switched to their arch-rival, WCW as a full-time color commentator. Somewhere between 1995 and 1996, Steve McMichael started training to compete in the ring.

During the same time, Steve McMichael began a feud with Ric Flair, who started hitting on his wife Debra. The feud also involved Flair’s valets, Woman, and Miss Elizabeth, all four of who seemingly partnered them up as one unit and presented Steve with a briefcase full of money and a Four Horsemen T-shirt, making him an official member of the group.

Steve McMichael continued his career inside the ring until 1999, with exception of a brief stint in TNA as well in 2008. However, things are not looking great for Mongo at the moment.

Ric Flair recently posted on Twitter, during a visit to see his old friend, as Mongo lay in a hospital bed. The duo, along with Mongo’s wife Misty, watched Flair’s daughter Charlotte Flair perform on SmackDown this week.

“Watching The Queen @MsCharlotteWWE With Mongo & Misty! ❤️.”

Steve McMichael has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) since April 2021. Since then, many of his former colleagues, just like Ric Flair, have visited him to show their concern as he battles the disease. Ringside News wishes Steve McMichael a speedy recovery and hopes that he continues to be the fighter that he has been for so long.
