Matt Cardona has revamped his entire wrestling career ever since he left WWE in his rearview. But it looks like he has unfinished business with the company as he recently filed a trademark for his old WWE ring name.
Matt Cardona came to prominence for his stint in WWE, under the ring name Zack Ryder. The Long Island Iced-Z became a popular superstar during the early 2010s, most notably his meteoric rise in 2011 as the WWE United States champion and program with John Cena.
Although, Zack Ryder still went on to claim championship gold after that, he was only featured in mid-card programs with no meaningful storylines and appearances. Furthermore, Ryder was released by WWE in April 2020 as a part of budget cuts during the pandemic.
However, Matt Cardona went on a career resurgence, becoming the face of the independent circuit and wrestling in some of the most defining matches, winning multiple championships. Moreover, he termed his WWE tenure as a developmental run, and his current run on the indies as a rejuvenation into a top star.
Despite being away from WWE for nearly three years now, Matt Cardona’s social media posts and most recent actions indicate that he still has the company on his radar in some capacity. Cardona recently a trademark filing on his previous ring name “Zack Ryder” for many years to come. The trademark was for several usages of the name.

This move by Matt Cardona could very well fuel the rumors of him returning to WWE, as many have speculated, as a surprise entrant in the upcoming 2023 Royal Rumble match. Cardona’s resurgence in the company with the success he had outside could lead him to his long-time goal of being on the top of WWE.
