Adam Cole returned to AEW on the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite. Cole addressed some of the health difficulties that kept him out for the latter half of 2022 in his first promo in several months. Then he declared that he was back and ready to create a problem for the rest of All Elite Wrestling once again. Tony Khan recently expressed his excitement for Adam Cole’s return to AEW.
Tony Khan recently told Baby Huey on the In The Kliq podcast that Cole’s return is a “dream come true” for everyone involved. Tony Khan said Adam is working hard and is “closer” to a wrestling comeback. Khan also expressed excitement for AEW fans to discover more about Adam Cole’s journey back to the squared circle.
Well, I don’t think he ever [ruled out returning to the ring]. Certainly, it was a very challenging recovery, and they were points where, I’m sure, he had to question if he was going to make it back or, you know, what he was putting himself through because, like he said, he didn’t leave the house to do anything but brain therapy.
He wanted it so bad. He wants so bad to come back to AEW, to get back in the ring and wrestle for the fans on Wednesdays on TBS, and Fridays on TNT. That’s his dream. For us, it’s a dream come true having Adam Cole be a part of the AEW roster. It’s very exciting that he’s getting closer and closer to making a comeback. It’s a really inspirational story, and people don’t even know the half of it yet. I’m excited for people to find out more about what Adam Cole has been through.
The last time Cole wrestled was at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June, where he faced Hangman Page, Kazuchika Okada, and Jay White in a Fatal 4-Way match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Cole made his final overall appearance on AEW TV in 2022 on the episode of AEW Dynamite on August 3 where he betrayed and attacked The Young Bucks alongside Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly.
Kyle O’Reilly has also been on the shelf since then, and he recently underwent neck fusion surgery. Kyle updated followers on his condition in a recent Instagram post, revealing that he has been dealing with a post-surgical issue.
A photo of Cole surfaced recently that showed AEW sneaking Mr. Bay-Bay into AEW Dynamite, complete with a disguise. AEW wanted to keep the return a secret, therefore they went to great lengths to do it. In addition, to avoid being seen by fans, Cole hid in the back of a car to enter the arena, where he was confined between the front and back seats on the floor.
Adam Cole also recently penned an emotional tribute to his late friend Jay Briscoe. Adam Cole and Jay Briscoe faced each other numerous times in Ring Of Honor, including their all-time classic match at Final Battle 2014. Keep an eye on Ringside News for the latest updates.
