Some WWE Superstars are “lifers,” like Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. No matter what, once they were in WWE, they stayed in Vince McMahon’s company for life. A lot of people thought that Chris Jericho’s loyalty to Vince McMahon meant that he would never leave WWE, but that was not the case at all.
Chris Jericho let his WWE contract run up. Then he worked for NJPW and had an incredible Wrestle Kingdom encounter with Kenny Omega. Before he could make a return to WWE, Tony Khan’s new company inked The Wizard to a deal. This was quite a shocking occurrence, and Kurt Angle was among those who couldn’t believe it.
During the Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic Gold Medalist commented on Chris Jericho leaving WWE. He always thought that Chris Jericho was a WWE lifer, but Le Champion proved Angle, and so many others, wrong.
“I thought Chris Jericho was gonna be a WWE life. I never thought he’d ever leave. He left before and I think he went to Japan, but never really signed with another company, at least not since he was in WCW. He was in WWE for the longest time and I never thought he’d leave and go to another company.”
“Regardless, Chris Jericho is a huge star,” Angle said. “He should always be in the main event, and he should be winning a lot of matches. It’s not like he’s past his prime. He’s still going as well as he ever has, and as long as he’s doing that you need to continue to push him.”
Chris Jericho doesn’t seem ready to make a WWE return at all. His deal with AEW has years left, and he is still enjoying success in his weekly storylines with the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Only time will tell what is next for Chris Jericho. It’s not hard to imagine a WWE Hall of Fame induction is in his future, but for now he is enjoying his time in Tony Khan’s company.
