John Cena made an appearance via satellite to reveal himself as Kevin Owens’ mystery partner for their tag team match a couple of weeks ago. That appearance was to announce that he would compete during the last SmackDown of the year. Cena is known to drop video messages, and it seems that he did it again.
John Cena returned to the ring in an emphatic fashion by defeating Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn in a tag team match. Prior to his return, there were several rumors that Cena would be returning to the ring for a match at WrestleMania.
It was even rumored that there are loose plans for Cena to face Logan Paul at WrestleMania. Rumors also emerged of a potential feud between Austin Theory and John Cena for WrestleMania. Nothing has been confirmed at the time, but Ringside News exclusively reported that Cena has Vince McMahon’s blessing to do anything he can for WWE.
Fightful Select reports that there were plans to film something between John Cena and Austin Theory during the former’s return to SmackDown. Austin Theory was originally supposed to wrestle Seth Rollins in a live show in Toronto. However, Theory was pulled from the show to travel to Tampa, where he was set to film a segment with John Cena.
It was not confirmed if that segment with John Cena was for digital, 2k, or for future use, but the segment was filmed.
“A changed live event main event could have a lot more behind it than meets the eye.
Fightful Select has learned that WWE had at least planned to film something with John Cena and WWE United States Champion Austin Theory while Cena was in for the December 30 Smackdown show.
Theory was originally scheduled to main event the Toronto live event that night in a cage match with Seth Rollins. However, Theory was pulled from that show to travel to Tampa, where he was set to film a segment with John Cena. We aren’t told if that was to be digital, for future use, for 2K, but the segment was filmed.
We can confirm WrestlingNews.co‘s report that as of November, there were loose plans for John Cena vs. Logan Paul to take place at WrestleMania internally, but two months later, we don’t know where that stands,” per Fightful Select.
It looks like WWE is serious about a feud between John Cena and Austin Theory. It will be interesting to watch how this storyline unfolds as we approach WrestleMania. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we keep you updated on this story as it develops.
