Vince McMahon strategically maneuvered his way back to the top of WWE. His return led to several board members quitting their jobs because they were against the 77-year-old making a comeback. Stephanie McMahon resigned from her position as co-CEO as well.
Vince McMahon came back because he wanted to oversee WWE’s television rights deal and a potential sale negotiation. The billionaire is known to have a temper and could be nasty if things don’t work according to his whims. According to a former WWE employee, McMahon once lost his cool at a red carpet event.
Dawn Pappas, who worked with WWE as a media relations manager, recently spoke about an incident with Vince McMahon while speaking on Chosen Life podcast. Pappas recalled McMahon yelled at her.
“Vince did yell at me one night. He yelled at me, we were doing a red carpet event in Anaheim and we were running behind schedule. When he got out of his car, he yelled at me. I don’t think Vince knew me from a hole in the wall, but I was the person who was in front of him wearing a WWE badge, so he kind of went off about ‘why are we behind schedule? This is unacceptable.’ I was like, ‘Vince, your first interview is here,’ I completely redirected him into what he needed to be doing. All night, people from the American company were like, ‘Oh my God, he yelled at you, are you okay?’ ‘Yeah, he just yelled at me, it’s fine, he didn’t fire me, I’m good.’ I would bet my life on this, he wasn’t mad at me, it wasn’t Dawn’s fault that we were running behind schedule. He just needed to vent this out before he went and spoke to a camera.”
Pappas revealed she worked in WWE for more than three years before she decided to quit because of company politics. WWE’s decision to go global also factored into her decision.
Vince McMahon, on the other hand, has still not made his presence felt at the office or around WWE shows since he was unanimously re-elected as the chairman of the board on January 11, 2023.
