Sting shocked the world when he made his debut in AEW back in December 2020. For the most part, he has been featured heavily on AEW television being paired up with Darby Allin. Prior to his AEW debut, Sting was part of WWE but it didn’t go well. In fact, Tony Khan criticized WWE for Underutilizing Sting.

Despite being over 60, Sting has been competing at an unexpectedly high level and that has certainly impressed fans and pro wrestlers alike. Many fans felt this is how Sting should have been booked in WWE.

Sting debuted in WWE back at Survivor Series 2014 and had a handful of matches. However, he was forced to retire due to an injury he suffered during a match with Seth Rollins.

While speaking in a new D Magazine feature about Sting’s career by Mike Piellucc, AEW President Tony Khan criticized WWE for underutilizing Sting during his time with the company.

He definitely had a lot more to offer than he’d be asked or allowed to show,” Khan said. “To know that a wrestling company could have somebody like Sting—or really, specifically, Sting himself, because there’s nobody like Sting—under contract, and he would want to work, and they wouldn’t want to use him, it makes no sense to me.

I don’t care what company it is, what time. I don’t care how many people you have under contract. If Sting wants to be active, and you have Sting on your roster, why wouldn’t you utilize him?”

Sting also knows how he wants to end his professional wrestling career. His contract will also expire this year. We’ll have to see what’s next in store for The Stinger.
