Vince McMahon took over headlines last year after he was involved in a hush-money scandal, and the pro wrestling world was utterly shocked by this turn of events. McMahon was forced to retire back in July last year, he eventually made his shocking return last week. Now that he is back, there are a lot of unanswered questions about how it will change WWE’s television product.
Vince McMahon became a part of the Board Of Directors after a ruthless business move that some compared to a hostage situation. Mr. McMahon is now the Executive Chairman of WWE again. It seems Matt Hardy believes that McMahon will put his fingerprints on the WWE product once again.
Vince McMahon became the Executive Chairman of WWE after Stephanie McMahon’s exit, and Nick Khan took over as the sole CEO of the company. Many fans hated the fact that McMahon was back, as they felt this meant the overall WWE product would diminish once again.
Despite that, Triple H is still the head of WWE Creative for the time being. Matt Hardy worked for Vince McMahon for many years throughout his time with the company, and he is well aware of how Vince McMahon functions.
While speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy was asked about McMahon, stating that he didn’t plan to change the structure of content creation/creative. Hardy made it clear that it is just a matter of time before McMahon puts his fingerprints on WWE’s product again.
I feel like even if Vince is being sincere about that, he won’t be able to control himself like that. If he is back, he is going to put his fingerprints on things. It’s just who he is. It’s absolutely who it is.
There was someone, I would just say randomly, without mentioning names, who said, ‘Raw felt different on Monday. I’ve got a feeling Vince may have had his fingerprints on it.’ Which is interesting.
I think if Vince comes back, I think he kinda continues as it is, and then you see a little more influence from Vince, a little more, a little more, a little more, a little more, and then it might get back to the point where he’s going, ‘Damn it, this is my show, and nobody’s better at doing this than me. This is my baby, I’m gonna raise my child, and I’m gonna see it through.
It would be a slow process, but just knowing Vince, he’s not my best friend, but I worked with him, and I’ve been around him a lot, and I feel like I have a pretty good grip on his actions, and kind of his thought process.
As time would go on, you would see a little more, and a little more, and a little more, and a little more, until he got back to where he felt like he was controlling the helm of the ship.”
Eric Bischoff also believes Vince McMahon will always do what’s best for WWE’s bottom line. Vince McMahon is also facing a lawsuit after his WWE return. We’ll have to see whether Vince McMahon will end up taking control of Creative again.
