AEW President Tony Khan has a lot of knowledge when it comes to professional wrestling, as he grew up as a fan. He used to fantasy book a lot as a kid. Now that he has his own company, Tony Khan is in charge of booking in AEW. Tony Khan takes a lot of flack, and this is no different, because Konnan had a lot to say about him.
It has been four years since Tony Khan started the company and in this time period, there has been quite a few memorable feuds that fans have loved. This includes Adam Page vs Kenny Omega as well as CM Punk vs MJF, among others. That being said, not all of his booking has been superb.
Tony Khan has also been criticized for his booking decisions on several occasions. While speaking on the K100 podcast, Konnan discussed it’s impossible to understand a booker’s position until you’ve been there. Konnan went on to say that he believes Tony Khan is still in diapers as a booker, because he has a lot to learn.
He’s still in diapers, bro. And the thing is that I don’t want to sound vainglorious — what a tremendous word — but the thing is it’s like anything else: If you’ve never been a booker, you can read about it, you can talk about it, you could talk to people that were bookers. But unless you’re there, you don’t understand the bulls**t that a booker goes through. It’s a very thankless situation. When you do what the talent wants? You’re the best. You don’t? You’re a d*ck, you have something against them.
There’s so many things that people don’t know about, and here’s the biggest thing: You have no idea how big a baby and insecure — and I understand why — the biggest stars actually are. They’re afraid to lose their spot. They’re afraid that everything they’ve worked for, somebody’s gonna come and take it away, not understanding that the only person that can take away your spot is you.”
Tony Khan is no longer the fan favorite he once was due to a lot of questionable booking decisions he has made over the past couple of years. That being said, AEW still has their die-hard fan base who will stand by Tony Khan, no matter what he books.
We will have to wait and see whether Tony Khan improves as a booker this year, as AEW certainly needs a huge win right now. Keep checking back with Ringside News for more.
