Sasha Banks walked out of WWE RAW during the beginning of a May 2022 episode. She took Naomi with her, and they left the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles with Vince McMahon before taking off. After her debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17, there are some in WWE who still believe The Boss is eventually coming home.
Mercedes Mone, Sasha Banks’ new name outside WWE, will not reportedly ink a deal with AEW. She reportedly doesn’t want to be locked into that kind of lengthy deal.
Dave Meltzer spoke about the former Sasha Banks’ situation on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said that there are some in WWE who believe that, much like Brock Lesnar and others, Sasha Banks will work for a few promotions, including NJPW, before coming back to Vince McMahon’s former company.
“I also know from WWE that they are very strongly under the impression that she will not wrestle for AEW … They think that she’s coming back at some point, and she’ll get this out of her system [and] she’ll do her New Japan matches. Because, she’s only contracted for a couple of matches … and if she’s going to AEW, she has to sign for 3 years minimum, because why bother if she’s going back?
For AEW, it would be really stupid to put her on television if she’s going back in 6 months. I don’t know that she wants to make that commitment that she can’t go back.”
We will have to see what the year holds for Mercedes Mone. She started things off with a couple attention-grabbing moments, and 2023 is only starting. WWE is still the largest pro wrestling company on the planet, but perhaps Mercedes Money wants to prove her worth outside WWE before coming back to really cash in as Sasha Banks.
