CM Punk was already a controversial name in professional wrestling before his scathing rant on Colt Cabana, Adam Page, and The Elite right after AEW All Out last year. He then brawled with The Elite backstage, and this more or less made him public enemy #1. That being said, it seems Eric Bischoff also thinks Punk has wrestled his last match at AEW All Out.
CM Punk has been out of action since All Out as he injured his triceps. He underwent surgery for the condition and is currently on the road to recovery. In fact, many fans believe CM Punk may never return to pro wrestling again.
While speaking on the Strictly Business podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Eric Bischoff talked about CM Punk’s current status in AEW. Bischoff stated that he will now refer to Punk as “Phillip” instead of his pro wrestling name, as he is no longer a wrestler.
I’m going to call him Philip because he’s no longer a wrestler. He’s no longer going to be in AEW this year.
Eric Bischoff believes CM Punk will leave with a “sizable amount of cash” and “ride off into the sunset,” thereby giving AEW the ability to “cleanse themselves” of the situation. Bischoff stated that it would be “better for everybody to go their separate ways.”
CM Punk also allegedly did not want to become the AEW World Champion. We will have to wait and see whether CM Punk will truly retire from professional wrestling this year.
