Booker T cut his teeth in pro wrestling commentary years ago, and he is now enjoying a seat while calling the action in NXT. That wasn’t supposed to be the long-term plan.

Former five-time Intercontinental Championship Wade Barrett retired from in-ring competition in 2016. He later returned to WWE in 2020, when he was placed on NXT commentary. Since the former Bad News Barrett’s move to SmackDown, Booker T has filled his role.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T revealed that he was supposed to end his time in NXT by the start of the new year. It doesn’t seem like that is still the plan at this juncture.

“My thing is that that job was only supposed to be until the end of December. But, like I say, what’s that kid’s name that used to work there? [Wade Barrett] Yeah, yeah, Wade Barrett. He’s gone and forgotten as you can see [laughs],”

We’ll have to see who is sitting on the commentary table when NXT returns to the USA Network in 2023. It seems that Wade Barrett’s new home on SmackDown opened up a brand-new opportunity for Booker T. If anything, he seems to really enjoy this gig, because he gets a great view of Roxanne Perez’s run as NXT Women’s Champion.
