Will Ospreay is widely regarded as one of the top wrestlers in the world. He has been a mainstay of NJPW since joining the promotion in 2016. His contract with NJPW might have an expiration date, but he has given no indication that he’s going anywhere else for the foreseeable future.
Contracts are a part of any major business and for a wrestler, it’s peak time to garner some attention. In a new interview with Fightful, Will Ospreay revealed that his deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling is set to be up soon. He went on to talk about his current salary and how he wants to make sure his family is taken care of for years to come.
“It’s flattering to know where people want me to show up and where they want me to go. I signed a five-year [deal] in 2019, so that will be up next year. My heart says I’ll still be with New Japan. I won’t lie, I have mad anxiety when it comes to America just because I come from such a small area and America is so big. I’ve only really dipped my toes into American wrestling. I did my stint with Ring of Honor, but I think I wrestled there maybe ten times. I kind of like to arrive and leave, and not stick around too long.”
The former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion owes his celebrity status to the NJPW. In addition to the accolades, he claimed to have a greater work ethic than other wrestlers. He hopes to lead a comfortable life with his family and continue to compete at a high level for the next few years of his life.
In recent news, Will Ospreay has been involved in a feud with fellow NJPW wrestler Kenny Omega. The two had a lot of back and forth, which will finally lead up to a fruitful conclusion in WrestleKingdom 17. These two heavyweights will go head-to-head in the 17th edition of the NJPW headliner event to settle their score.
Aside from his in-ring career, Will Ospreay has also made headlines for his involvement in the creation of a new wrestling promotion. The Frontline Wrestling Alliance (FWA) is based in the United Kingdom and aims to provide a platform for up-and-coming wrestlers to showcase their talent. Will is serving as one of the founders and will also be competing in matches for the company.
Will Ospreay’s decision to stay with NJPW is sure to delight fans of the promotion. They come to know and love the high-flying grappler for his athletic and exciting style. It is also a major coup for NJPW, as it continues to solidify its position as one of the premier wrestling organizations in the world.
