A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Shinsuke Nakamura will work a match against The Great Muta at The Pro Wrestling NOAH The New Year 2023 event as part of Muta’s retirement tour. This news came as a shock because Nakamura is still contracted to WWE. At the show, Nakamura defeated The Great Muta. The King of Strong Style has a lot of momentum in Japan, and he’s having a great time.
Following the match, Shinsuke Nakamura reunited with former WWE Superstar KAIRI. They met up on January 1st and the IWGP Women’s Champion also posted photos about the moment on her official Twitter account. She captioned the photos in Japanese, which translates as follows.
“2023 ⇆ 2018. Thank you very much for the miracle, the heart-trembling match.”
It was a very kind gesture from WWE to allow Nakamura to travel to Japan and face The Great Muta. WWE is also allowing Karl Anderson to defend his IWGP Never Openweight Championship against Tama Tonga at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. We can only hope that this could be the start of WWE breaking down the forbidden door.
