AEW may not be as hot a commodity as it once was, but the brand still has value. That being said, it seems a French-Canadian broadcasting station has decided to drop AEW Dynamite for good.
A French Canadian broadcaster will not be carrying AEW Dynamite next year, according to a new report. As reported by Slam Wrestling, Quebec announcer Jean-François Kelly has stated that French-language station RDS will not be carrying AEW Dynamite from next year.
The announcer Jean-François Kelly himself would comment on the news, where he said that he has been part of RDS for 25 years and that the decision to cut off AEW Dynamite was a hard one.
“It’s been exactly 25 years since I’ve been in RDS. This decision (that I can understand) by management to cut AEW wrestling show is the hardest one for me to take.”
The La Lutte à RDS Facebook page has confirmed the news, as they also thanked fans for tuning in to watch their broadcast for so many months.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us tonight and the past few weeks.
Sadly, Dynamite tonight was our last broadcast of AEW in French on RDS.
Due to budget constraints, unfortunately we won’t be back in 2023.
Thanks again to everyone who joined our fall dates, see you next time, hopefully.
The wrestling team at RDS.”
AEW Dynamite aired on the channel with French commentary, beginning in August of this year. The company has yet to release a statement regarding this decision but is likely to do so very soon. We’ll have to see if AEW will find a new broadcasting partner in the future.
