Tay Melo has worked hard to become one of the highlights of the AEW Women’s Divison. Eventually, she started to partner up with her husband Sammy Guevara and even won the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship win at AAA at TripleMania XXX: Monterrey. However, Melo recently pulled out of their scheduled title defence, which ended up upsetting AAA in a huge way.
As previously reported, Tay Melo was booked for a World Mixed Tag Title match at the AAA Noche de Campeones event in Acapulco, Mexico. However, she was also booked for a tag team match on AEW Dynamite this week.
Melo ended up pulling out of the title defense and competed on Dynamite instead. Due to this, she and Sammy Guevara were stripped of the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Titles.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that “AAA wasn’t thrilled” with AEW’s decision to keep Melo in the U.S. for her match on Dynamite, thereby pulling out of the scheduled title match at the AAA Noche de Campeones event.
Abismo and Flammer were crowned the new AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champions during the event. Regardless, we wonder whether this incident will end up dampening AEW and AAA’s relationship.
