Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite is called “New Year’s Smash” and promises another night of exciting action. The show will feature Match 6 of the best of 7 series for the AEW World Trios Championship. The match card is as follows:

AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash Opener

The opening package for the show airs.

Ethan Page vs. Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson’s theme song plays and he walks out. Ethan Page’s theme song plays next and he comes out to the ring.

Before the match could begin, MJF appears in the VIP box and distracts Bryan as Ethan Page attacks him from behind. Ethan Page knocks down Bryan. He continues to attack him in the corner.

Bryan with a flying elbow. Bryan attacks Page in the corner. Page fights back with a chop of his own. Bryan fights back now with chops and kicks in the corner. Bryan with a knee to the midsection.

Bryan goes to work on Page. Bryan attacks the legs of Page. Bryan kicks Page in the back.

Page fights back with a back elbow. Page attacks Danielson viciously. Page sets Bryan on the top rope but gets knocked down. Bryan with a missile dropkick. Hathaway gets on the apron and distracts him. Page tries to attack him but Bryan misses and Bryan hits a flying knee. He then hits the suicide dive.

Hathaway distracts Bryan as Page kicks him in the head. Bryan sent into the ring post. Page sends Bryan into the ring. Page attacks Bryan in the corner. Page hits the bodyslam on Bryan. Page goes for a suplex but Bryan counters into a German suplex.

Both men exchange strikes. Bryan attacks Page with kicks in the corner. He sets up Page in the top rope and hits the hurricanrana. Bryan with a couple of kicks to the chest but misses the kick to the head.

He sends Page outside. Bryan goes for a dive but misses. Page sends Bryan into the steel steps and hits a powerslam. He sends Bryan into the ring and hits the cutter. Cover! 1…2…..kick out.

Page goes for a powerslam again but Bryan counters into DDT and kicks him in the head. Cover! 1….2….kick out. Bryan transitions into the LaBell lock Page gets to the rope.

Bryan climbs the top rope but is stopped by Ethan. Bryan with the elbow strikes to Page but is caught and Page hits the avalanche powerslam. Cover! 1…..2….kick out.

Page goes for the Ego’s Edge but Bryan escapes and hits the Busaiku knee. He then hits the stomps on Page and locks in a submission hold as Ethan is out cold.

Winner; Bryan Danielson

Wardlow is interviewed backstage. He says there has been too many words and it’s time for action. Samoa Joe attacks Wardlow with a pipe. Wardlow looks hurt.

*Commercial break*

Hangman Page is interviewed backstage who says he is frustrated he hasn’t wrestled in 2 months. The trainer says if he continues to keep this up, he can be back in the ring in the two weeks but if he keeps getting riled up, he may never step back in the ring. Page agrees and asks the trainer to check his eyeballs.

Claudio Castagnoli & Jon Moxley vs. Top Flight

Jon Moxley’s music plays and he comes out with Claudio Castagnoli. Top Flight’s theme song plays and they walk to the ring.

Top Flight attacks Claudio and Moxley. They go for a dive but a caught and slammed. Moxley sends Darrius into the ring. He tags out and Claudio attacks him in the corner. Moxley tags back in and attacks Darrius. Moxley tags out and Claudio hits a gutwrench suplex.

Darrius fights back but not enough as he gets bodyslammed. Claudio tags out and Moxley continues the attack. He chops Darrius in the corner. He sets up Darrius in the top rope. Darrius knocks him down and hits a missile dropkick. He tags out as Dante hits the diving crossbody and a dropkick and moonsault. Cover! 1..2…kick out.

Moxley fights back with a back suplex. He then hits the anvil elbows. Darrius attacks Moxley from behind. Dante tags out. He sends Moxley into the barricade. He attacks Moxley and sends him in the ring. Cover! 1….2….kick out.

Darrius tags in his partner and Dante continues the attack. Cover! 1….2…..kick out. Dante goes to work on Jon. Dante tags out and Darrius attack Moxley’s knee. Jon Moxley with a release suplex on Dante. Both men tag out and Claudio attacks Dante with numerous uppercuts.

Claudio hits the dropkick. Cover! 1…..2…..kick out. Claudio hits the swing. Dante rolls him up but no pinfall. Darrius with a tornado DDT and Dante with a senton. Cover! 1….2…..kick out. Claudio with a double suplex on Top Flight.

Dante with a superkick and Darrius plants him. Cover! 1…2….Moxley to the rescue. Moxley attacks Top Flight but gets caught with a superkick. They superkick Claudio. Dante with a suicide dive on Moxley. Darrius with a Spanish fly on Claudio. Cover! 1….2….kick out.

Claudio hits the neutralizer. Cover! 1…..2…..kick out. Claudio hits the anvil elbows. Dante kicks him but he doesn’t stop and Mosley with a king kong lariat. Moxley hits the paradigm shift to Dante on the outside.

Darrius slaps Claudio who hits him back with an uppercut for the win.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Top Flight

The Best Friends and Kip Sabian are interviewed backstage. Kip says they have done this for far too long. He says it’s about time for the final act where he beats Orange for the title. Orange says Trent gets a title shot before Kip Sabian.

Cassidy says it will happen at Rampage.

Hook vs. Baylum Lynx

Hook’s theme song plays and he walks to the ring.

Hook with a takedown. He slams Lynx’s face in the turnbuckle and throws him across the ring. He hits the overhead suplex. Hook continues the attack and locks in red rum as Lynx taps.

Winner: Hook

After the match, Hathaway comes out and says somebody tells him he’s a badass and he calls Hook the Southwest Airlines of AEW. Jungle Boy’s theme song hits and he comes out and brawls with Lee Moriarty.

In the ring, Bill and Hook come face-to-face. Bill goes for the chokeslam but Jack with a 2X4 across the spine as Bill escapes from the ring.

Chris Jericho is backstage and he says Starks turned down the opportunity of the lifetime. He calls Starks foolish and small-minded. He says Ricky has the arrogance of a superstar but he doesn’t have all the tools. He says he will school Ricky when they face each other.

He then tells Action not to return to AEW and asks him to go back to the indies. He then says Ricky will pay the price in Seattle.

Swerve is interviewed backstage. He says he got rid of somebody who didn’t believe in his vision with two people who did. Wheeler says he shouldn’t be surprised about Swerve. He challenges Swerve to a match at Rampage.

Match 6 of the best of 7 series for the AEW World Trios Championship – Falls Count Anywhere Match: Death Triangle (c) vs. The Elite

The Elite and Death Triangle begin brawling backstage. Penta attacks the Young Bucks with a trash can. Pac with a brianbuster to Omega on the wood. Pac hits the moonsault on the Young Bucks.

Matt with a backdrop on Fenix through a table. Matt with a superkick to Pac. Cover! 1…..2…..Penta to the rescue. Nick scales the risers and dives onto Penta. Cover! 1……2…..kick out.

The Young Bucks drag Penta and Pac to the ringside area. Fenix scales the entranceway. Young Bucks with the superkick but Fenix with a tornillo onto them and Omega hits the V Trigger to Fenix. Omega tries to pick Pac up but he reverses into a German suplex. Cover! 1…2…Matt to the rescue.

Matt hits multiple Northern Lights suplex down the entrance ramp to Fenix and Pac. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Nick sends Fenix and Penta into the ring. The Young Bucks attack The Luch Bros. in the corner. Young Bucks sent outside.

Fenix chops Matt. Penta chokes Nick in the crowd. In the ring, Pac attacks Omega in the corner. Penta kicks Omega in the ring. Fenix brings in a trash can. They place the can around Omega and dropkick him. Cover! 1….2…..kick out.

Penta and Fenix sent outside. Pac kicks Omega. Nick with a kick to Pac but Penta with a superkick and slindblade. Matt with a Destroyer. Fenix takes out Matt before being taken out by Omega

Omega with a snapdragon to Pac. He hits him with a trashcan. Omega places trash can around his head and hits V Trigger. He then hits the doctor bomb. Cover! 1…2…kick out.

Kenny picks up Pac but is stopped and dragged outside by Penta and he hits fear factor. Cover! 1…..2…..broken up.

Fenix with a hurricanrana and cutter to the Bucks and then dives onto Omega. Penta with a superkick on Nick. Nick with back body on the apron and they hit indietaker. Cover! 1…2….Pac to the rescue.

Pac sends Matt into the ring and kicks him. He climbs the top rop and goes for black arrow and misses. Nick throws a chair at him and Penta. They hit BTE Trigger. Cover! 1…2….Pac to the rescue.

Matt superkicks Nick by mistake and Pac rolls him and attempts the brutalizer. Meanwhile, Omega hits the one-winged angel on the table outside for the win

Anna Jay & Tay Melo vs. Willow Nightingale & Ruby Soho

Anna Jay’s theme song plays first and they come out to the ring. Willow Nightingale’s theme song plays and she comes out. Ruby Soho’s music hits and she comes out to the ring.

Willow and Tay start the match. Willow throws down Tay. Ruby tags in but Tay escapes and tags in Anna Jay. Ruby attacks Anna Jay. She tags in Willow and they both attack Anna Jay.

Willow with a bodyslam and tags in Ruby Soho who attacks Anna. She tags out and Willow attacks Anna with a boot and a crossbody. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Willow goes for a tag but Soho is taken out by Tay. Anna then attacks Willow.

Anna tags in Tay who continues to attack Willow. Cover! 1..2…kick out. Tay tags out and they hit the double suplex. Cover! 1..2..kick out. Anna tags out and Tay continues the attack. Tay tags out.

Anna goes to work on Willow. Anna with a full nelson. Anna tags out and Tay attacks her in the corner before tagging out. Anna attacks her again. Willow fights back with a lariat.

Both women tag out and Ruby attacks Tay with multiple forearm strikes. She drives Tay into the turnbuckle and knocks down Anna. She hits no future on Tay Melo. Cover! 1….2…..kick out. Anna attacks Ruby from behind. Willow takes out Anna but Tay with a pump kick on Willow.

Anna sent outside. Ruby with a knee strike and a back suplex. Cover! 1…2….Anna to the rescue. Anna kicks Soho and Tay with a DDT. Cover! 1….2…..Willow saves Soho. Willow hits the suplex on the outside.

Soho and Tay exchange strikes in the ring. Willow sent into the ring post. Anna takes a steel chair and goes to attack her but is stopped by the referee. Tay delivers the pump kick into the chair in Ruby’s face and hits TayKO for the win.

Winner: Anna Jay and Tay Melo

The Gunns are interviewed backstage who say they are still in party mode because they are the best tag team in AEW. They said they will address their win over FTR next week.

Ricky is interviewed backstage. He says he feels a lot better than Action who was a victim last week. He says he will get revenge next week against Jericho. He says he is a star that Jericho can’t control. He then says that January 4th will be a masterclass when he beats Jericho. He says he will take Jericho down several notches because he can.

TNT Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Wardlow

Samoa Joe’s theme song plays and he comes out to the ring. Wardlow’s theme song plays next but he doesn’t come out.

Joe gets on the mic and says that Wardlow is suffering from stage fright so he won’ t be coming. Wardlow comes out fighting off the referees and medical staff.

He gets in the ring and they both brawl. Wardlow attacks Joe in the corner. He knocks down Joe with a shoulder tackle. Joe attacks the leg but Wardlow with a spinebuster and he attacks Joe.

Wardlow continues to attack Samoa Joe. Samoa Joe slams Wardlow to the mat. He then chops Wardlow but gets knocked down with a clothesline.

Joe hits the kneebreaker to Wardlow who rolls out of the ring. The doctor checks on Wardlow. Wardlow gets back up and attacks the paramedics. He gets in the ring but Joe attacks him and the injured leg. Wardlow falls outside the ring.

He gets back in the ring and Joe continues the attack. He sets up Wardlow on the top rope but Wardlow knocks Joe off and he hits the Senton Atomico. Both men exchange strikes in the ring. Wardlow with a couple of German suplex.

He attacks Joe in the corner and dives onto Joe. Cover! 1…2…kick out. Wardlow with a headbutt and a clothesline, Cover! 1…..2…..kick out. Joe sweeps out the leg of Wardlow.

Joe goes to attack Wardlow in the corner but Wardlow counters and hits the powerbomb. He goes for the powerbomb but can’t lift Joe who attacks the knee of Wardlow and locks in the sleeper hold as Wardlow fades giving Joe the win.

Winner: Samoa Joe (c)

After the match, Joe attacks Wardlow with the title belt. He the takes out a toolbox from under the ring and takes out a scissor from it. He attacks the referee. Joe then cuts Wardlow’s ponytail.

Darby Allin’s theme song plays and he attacks Joe from behind. He then picks up the TNT Championship.
