Gunther took the WWE main roster by storm back in April. His quick rise even had him becoming Intercontinental Champion on the 27 May episode of SmackDown. Now he has reached a milestone that a small amount of past WWE superstars have reached.
As of December 27th, Gunther reached the 200-day mark as the IC champion. This is a great achievement for one of the best in-ring generals today across all pro wrestling. However, he put on great matches with other WWE talent too.
This past September at Clash At The Castle, Gunther defeated Sheamus to retain the title in a critically acclaimed match, with many deeming it one of the best matches of 2022. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter rated the match five stars, marking Gunther’s fifth match to receive five stars in WWE, and the first received for the main roster.
Gunther also successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against other opponents recently. He defeated Rey Mysterio and Ricochet recently in solid matches on SmackDown in November and December respectively.
Currently, Gunther doesn’t have an opponent lined up for the future, but there are rumors of a match between John Cena or Brock Lesnar down the road for Wrestlemania 39. The sky is the limit for the leader of Imperium, and only time will tell how many more titles he picks up in WWE.
