WWE Confirms Special Match For 2023 Royal Rumble Event

WWE Royal Rumble will be the first pay-per-view of the new year, officially kicking off the road to WrestleMania 39 in 2023. The event itself is known for surprise appearances by former WWE superstars and legends during the name-sake match. However, this year, a new match type has been confirmed to take place.

The Royal Rumble event has already been speculated to feature major surprises including the return of the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. Apart from that, the show is rumored to feature a Hell in a Cell match between Edge and Finn Balor along with the return of a fan-favorite persona, according to multiple reports.

WWE recently posted a video on Twitter confirming a new type of match set to take place at the 2023 Royal Rumble event, titled “Pitch Black match.” The footage states that the match will be presented by Mountain Dew and shows a man in the shadows with bright light emerging from behind as the text “When It’s The Pitch Black Match” appears further touting into “Anything Can Happen” on the screen.
