AEW President Tony Khan truly loves professional wrestling and no one can doubt that fact. However, many fans simply feel that Khan just does not have what it takes to run a company due to all the drama in the company over the past few months. Be that as it may, Tony Khan still cares about paying his AEW talent and it seems he will not interfere with talents’ external income platforms.
Mandy Rose dominated headlines last week after she was suddenly fired by WWE. The former NXT Women’s Champion was released from her WWE contract due to content she posted behind her premium content paywall.
Mandy Rose’s release ended up sparking a huge debate among fans, as to whether talent should be allowed to make their own income from external platforms in addition to their pro wrestling contracts. While speaking to TV Insider, Tony Khan talked about AEW stars using social media to profit from their own content. Khan made it clear he has no intention of interfering with talents’ external income platforms.
“I try to be flexible with the wrestlers and staff utilizing their personal social media. I certainly recognize they are leading their own lives the other five days of the week when they’re not wrestling. They are representing the company as great wrestlers of AEW, but they are also all independent people with separate lives. I try to give people that peace of mind that I’m not trying to be ‘Big Brother’ trying to change everything they do in their life. It’s a balance. We just want people to promote AEW when they can and do their best to help us grow our wrestling business.”
WWE also isn’t closing the door on Mandy Rose’s return to the company in the future. Regardless, fans will certainly be happy to know Tony Khan will let his talent earn from external platforms, which fans feel every talent has a right to.
