Kenny Omega’s in-ring skills have helped cement him as one of the best pro wrestlers on the planet. He is called the Best Bout Machine and fans certainly agree with this name for good reason. Omega has been part of AEW since the very beginning and now it seems his contract might have been extended.
The former AEW World Champion had taken several months off to recuperate from his injuries, due to which he was not seen on AEW television whatsoever. Reports also suggested that his contract was going to expire in January next year, but that may no longer be the case.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about Kenny Omega’s contract by a listener. The listener asked whether Omega’s contract will expire in January, to which Meltzer confirmed the initial date.
“January 30 or February 1.”
The fan then went on to ask Dave Meltzer whether Kenny Omega’s contract was extended or not. This is because Omega is currently being promoted for AEW’s show in Winnipeg, which will be in March.
“…But AEW is currently advertising him for the Winnipeg show that’s in March, does this mean his contract has been extended to make up for the injury time, or has he signed a new contract?”
Dave Meltzer then talked about Kenny Omega’s contract status with AEW. He added that Omega has not signed a new contract, but the company likely extended his contract.
“As far as I know, he hasn’t signed a new contract, and I would think if he had, they would have sent out a release like they did (for Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley).
But because he had all that time off with the injury, I think that they froze it and will extend it.”
Kenny Omega also competed during AEW Dark tapings this week. Kenny Omega is set to team up with The Young Bucks and square off against Death Triangle in their next match in the best-of-seven series with Death Triangle, for the AEW Trios Titles. We will have to wait and see whether The Elite will win the series in the end.
