The buildup to the 2023 Royal Rumble has started, and things are taking shape in a big way. After the future of a certain beloved gimmick match was up in the air, it has come to light that it would be making a return in the upcoming Royal Rumble.

A first in WWE history, the 2023 Royal Rumble will feature a Hell in a Cell match. Wrestling News reports that the match is likely to take place between Finn Balor and Edge. It was noted that this likely won’t be announced until the December 30th episode of SmackDown.

Earlier this year, Triple H made the decision to nix the Hell in a Cell PPV event in order to avoid shoehorning bookings for the pay-per-view. Triple H holds the Hell in a Cell match stipulation to be scared and wanted to reserve it for special occasions.

The 2023 Royal Rumble is also set to feature a Pitch Black match, to which the details are quite sparse. According to a previous report by Ringside News, that WWE creative was in the dark concerning plans for that match.
