Chris Jericho faced off against Action Andretti on this past week’s show in one-on-one action. Many fans assumed Jericho was going to win, but that was not the case at all. This is because Action Andretti defeated Chris Jericho in a competitive match.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Chris Jericho losing to Action Andretti. During the discussion, Meltzer revealed that AEW had huge plans for Jungle Boy to defeat Chris Jericho at one point in time.
He was going to do something similar with Jungle Boy, but he didn’t want to do it with no crowds. By the time the crowd came back, the whole dynamic had changed and he was in different places and it just didn’t fit it. To do it now, he could have done it with Jungle Boy, Takeshita and others. The thing on those is, in all three cases, people watching the match, in the back of their heads would go, ‘maybe he’s gonna do it.’ If those guys would’ve won, it would’ve big been for them to win but it wouldn’t have been as big a talking point.
Chris Jericho decided to put Action Andretti over as he felt Andretti will become a huge star. We will have to wait and see whether Chris Jericho’s Midas touch ends up benefitting Andretti or not in AEW. As for Jungle Boy, only time will tell whether he will get a proper push in the future.
