Chris Jericho is a veteran in the pro wrestling business, and his contributions to the industry will never be forgotten. Jericho eventually became the ROH World Champion and even became a fighting champion for a while. He also competed at ROH Final Battle, but it seems Warner Bros officials didn’t want him to compete at the pay-per-view.
In the main event of the ROH Final Battle pay-per-view, Chris Jericho defended his ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli. Jericho lost the match by tapping out to the Giant Swing.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sam Linksy, who serves as the Associate General Manager and Senior Vice President of Scripted Original programming for TNT, TBS and truTV, and other officials at TBS, didn’t want Jericho to compete at ROH Final Battle. This is because Jericho is one of the top stars in AEW.
Tony Khan always booked it to end with this show. Sam Linsky and TBS actually were at first against Jericho, as one of the top guys in AEW, appearing on this PPV show. Because of that, at one point the plan was for Jericho to lose in the four-way at Full Gear to Castagnoli, but that result reversed when everyone got on the same page regarding not being against Jericho being on an ROH PPV show.
Chris Jericho also recently put over Action Andretti on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite Now it remains to be seen what AEW will be planning for Chris Jericho in the coming weeks.
