MJF has been one of AEW’s standout talents for quite some time, and he created a name for himself in the company since 2019. His meteoric ascent to fame has seen him as both a friend and a rival to Chris Jericho, and he most recently defeated Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. Through it all, MJF has refused to break character for anyone. Tony Khan recently discussed MJF’s attitude off-camera.
Tales of MJF in AEW ignore the numerous other excellent experiences he’s had in AEW. Tony Khan was questioned if MJF was the appropriate choice in an interview for Today.com. The AEW owner responded that MJF can be difficult off-camera.
MJF, I think, is one of the most charismatic and intelligent pro wrestlers on the planet. And there are fans worldwide compelled by his actions and take notice every time he speaks. This is me 100% of the time, 365 days a year. It doesn’t change. You can ask people in my industry — and people have — and then fans are like, ‘Oh, these other people are just keeping up the ruse.’ This is me. My own experiences dealing with him, I’ve found him to be more difficult in some ways off camera, if that’s even possible.
This is the same MJF who verbally attacked Tony Khan on AEW Dynamite in June 2022, asking if Khan would “treat (him) better if (he) were an ex-WWE guy?” The Salt of the Earth also called Tony Khan a “f*cking mark” in the conclusion of that pipe bomb promo. MJF has also demonstrated on numerous occasions that he is not afraid to antagonize outside the AEW cage, most recently taunting Paddy Pimblett at UFC 282.
Despite his dominance on AEW programming as the company’s top heel, there were rumored plans to change MJF face at AEW Full Gear. Let’s see what’s in store for MJF in the future. Keep an eye on Ringside News for more.
