MJF is truly a student of the pro wrestling game, and he never fails to tick people off with his heel antics. He is also someone who never breaks character, and fans can’t get enough of that. MJF recently shed light on antisemitism and Kanye West, and he held nothing back.
It’s a huge week for MJF, who will defend his AEW World Championship against Ricky Starks on Wednesday at AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming. However, MJF’s title reign as a Jewish athlete comes at a time when antisemitism is making headlines. Most of that is thanks to the recent actions and words of rapper Ye (better known as Kanye West) and basketball star Kyrie Irving.
As he disclosed in an interview with Today, MJF is well aware of what is going on in the globe right now. The AEW Champion and possible future movie star discussed Ye’s comments and why such antisemitism drives him to be someone in the mainstream who stands up to it.
It’s just very funny to me that now all of a sudden the conversations being started because Kanye West decided to speak out on the underbelly of society — anti-Semitism has always been there, always, always, always. The Holocaust was not a very long time ago. And I think that’s something that people just love to forget or love to not admit. So, no, I’m not afraid to be a flag bearer as a Jewish athlete.
In addition to becoming engaged to his long time love, artist Natalie Rosenblum, MJF had a busy year. Rosenblum also spoke to Today, emphasizing the importance of someone in MJF’s position breaking preconceptions.
I think we need to have more people like him because there is a stereotype when you think of a Jew, and I think he’s breaking that mold, as am I, as are so many other people. So the fact that he’s able to step out of that role of, you know, like, a stereotypical Jew — I think it’s wonderful. And I think it’s necessary.
