Chris Jericho’s feud with Eddie Kingston was one of the best feuds in AEW this year. After months of Jericho’s snide remarks regarding Kingston, the storyline culminated in a match between the two men at AEW Fyter Fest. It was decided that they would face off in a Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match.
At Fyter Fest, Chris Jericho defeated Eddie Kingston, which drew a lot of criticism from the fans who expected Eddie Kingston to win considering the buildup to the match. Despite the critics, some fans still praised their efforts.
Chris Jericho addressed this on his Talk is Jericho podcast by saying that he couldn’t lose any matches heading into his AEW World Title bout against Jon Moxley. He also mentioned that his match had to be cut short because they were running out of television time.
“This was a really good match, we got cut short at the end, which was kind of a drag. Super violent, lots of gimmicks and barbed wire. We were getting rushed at the end.
It’s live TV and some other people might have gone long with segments, whatever it was. I think we only had 13 or 14 minutes to go through this thing.
For me, because (CM) Punk was the champ and he got hurt and then Tony (Khan) wanted Mox (Jon Moxley) and I to work for the title, I couldn’t lose that match because I’m challenging for the championship.
Had I not been challenging for the championship, Eddie probably would have won. He still got the moral victory when he tossed me into the barbed wire at the end. Even though it was rushed, we still had to get it done,” said Chris Jericho.
Chris Jericho recently defended his ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli at ROH Final Battle in a losing effort. It will be interesting to see if he will get his rematch in the future. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we keep you updated on this story.
