Sasha Banks walked out on WWE in the middle of the May 16, 2022 episode of Raw. The Boss was said to be frustrated with Vince McMahon’s booking of the women’s tag team division. Banks continues to thrive outside WWE. She recently teased a potential signing with AEW as well.
Sean Sapp reported from behind Fightful’s paywall that several talent within the Jacksonville-based promotion are excited about the possibility of Sasha Banks signing with AEW. Many believe the real-life Mercedes Varnado coming in would be a huge ratings boost.
Fightful asked about Mercedes’ status with WWE after the heavy promotion of her appearing on USA Network’s Barmageddon. Nobody that we inquired with at WWE had heard any change or update on her status, or were at least willing to say as much. However, several AEW talent were excited about the possibility of her coming in. One source quickly agreed they thought that having Sasha Banks on their show weekly is another “anchor” for their women’s division, something that could kick start interest in it, and feel would significantly help viewership.
As previously reported, Sasha Banks is expected to attend New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 pay-per-view event on January 4, 2023. It remains to be seen if the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions will appear live before the public at NJPW’s biggest show of the year.
