William Regal is one of the most brilliant-minds in the wrestling business. From being an accomplished in-ring performer to working in a backstage role, Regal has proven his worth everywhere, most recently in AEW. Now, the Englishman’s rumored departure from the company has seemingly been confirmed by Tony Khan.
William Regal started his professional wrestling career at the age of 15. He has been credited for his work in WWE, both as a competitor and on-screen authority figure for WWE’s developmental brand, NXT. However, Regal was released by WWE in January 2022 and signed with rival competition, AEW, in March of the same year.
The 54-year-old veteran was recently attacked by the new AEW World Champion MJF, the same man William Regal helped to win the title from Jon Moxley at Full Gear, on the November 30th edition of AEW Dynamite. This marked his last appearance for the company.
During the ROH Final Battle Media Call, Tony Khan revealed that William Regal approached him about going back to WWE. Working with his son, Charlie Dempsey, also had a lot to do with that decision.
“Tony Khan speaks about William Regal right out of the gate. He says he has a lot of respect for William Regal. William Regal approached AEW and requested they not renew his contract at the end of the year so he could spend time coaching his son and head back to WWE.”
William Regal had an excellent comradery working with Triple H back in NXT. With The Game taking over control as Head of Creative and bringing an entire new creative regime, William Regal’s addition to the management would help WWE elevate their storylines and television product even further.
