William Regal truly loves the professional world and gave forty years of his life to it. Following his WWE release, Regal debuted in AEW back in March and had a memorable run in the company. However, he parted ways with AEW and asked for his departure just a couple of months ago.
As previously reported, William Regal has officially left AEW. This was right after he was written off television on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite where MJF viciously attacked him.
While speaking during the ROH Final Battle media call, AEW President Tony Khan revealed that William Regal had requested Khan not to renew his contract at the end of the year. He made the request back in October, prior to the Toronto shows.
This was around the time Tony Khan was dealing with his mother’s own health issues and the fallout from AEW All Out as well. Khan added that Regal had a lot of good reasons for going back, especially training his son. Khan stated that he realized letting Regal out of his deal was the best decision for everyone involved.
William Regal is expected to begin his WWE run next year for a backstage role. We will have to wait and see what WWE will have planned for Lord Regal, now that he will be working under Triple H again.
