Chris Jericho issued an open challenge for his ROH World Championship during the November 2 episode of AEW Dynamite. Any former ROH champion was eligible for the task. Ultimately, it was Colt Cabana who answered the call, and it seems Jericho personally requested Cabana be his opponent for the match.
During the show, Colt Cabana’s music started playing and the former ROH Tag Team Champion answered Jericho’s challenge. Fans were glad to see Boom Boom after so long as well.
In the end, Colt Cabana ended up losing the match. While speaking on The Work of Wrestling podcast, Colt Cabana was asked about the situation surrounding his return to AEW television. Cabana revealed that Jericho personally requested Cabana for the match.
“I never talked to Tony until I was in Gorilla (position), so it wasn’t a call from Tony Khan. The travel called me up and said, ‘You’re needed for Baltimore, Maryland.’ I assumed it was to wrestle Chris Jericho. I think the travel told me, ‘Chris Jericho is requesting your presence in Baltimore.’ So, I wrestled Chris. I’m under contract, they tell me to show up, I showed up. They tell me who I’m wrestling, I wrestle. If they want me to wrestle again, I’ll wrestle again. if they want me to agent again, I’ll agent again, whatever.”
Colt Cabana nearly died during the match, and that was quite a story. Cabana’s appearance was also a one-off deal. We will have to wait and see whether the Dark Order member will return to AEW television anytime soon or not.
