WWE has gone through a lot of changes over the past several decades, especially compared to how things were back in the 1980s. Back then, The Road Warriors were arguably the biggest tag team in the industry. In fact, they were allegedly offered money to break The Brisco Brothers’ legs.
Ole Anderson helped form The Road Warriors in Georgia Championship Wrestling, which also had Gerrald and Jack Brisco as top stars in 1984. In fact, The Brisco Brothers even purchased a stake in the promotion.
While speaking on his podcast, Bruce Prichard recalled that the Briscos and Road Warriors were scheduled for a match after Vince McMahon took over the promotion. He then alleged that Ole Anderson offered The Road Warriors money to legit break The Brisco Brothers’ legs.
“Vince had come in, and Vince had taken over Georgia Championship Wrestling and bought a controling partnership there. And Ole Anderson, I believe, was booking at the time and the Briscos were there. And Ole Anderson offered the Road Warriors money; they were in a match with the Briscos, and legend has it that they were offered money to break the Briscos’ legs.
So, Jack and Jerry came to the dressing room and told the Warriors. They said, ‘Hey, we understand that Ole wants you to hurt us tonight and that we have been told that you are going to try and break our legs.
Listen, we really need to have a match, or somebody is going to get their leg broken. And unsurprisingly, Road Warriors worked that match and had a hell of a match with the Briscos. And nobody got hurt. I’m sure, had the Warriors tried to do something, somebody would have probably ended up with a broken leg, and I don’t think it would have been a Brisco.”
The Road Warriors will forever be remembered as one of the greatest tag teams of all time and their physical in-ring style continues to be copied even now. Regardless, we are glad they didn’t end up breaking The Brisco Brothers’ legs.
