Kota Ibushi is certainly one of the best pro wrestlers in the world right now. He was involved in a lot of controversy earlier this year, leaving his NJPW status in doubt. He was also part of The Golden Lovers with Kenny Omega and was loved by many. By the looks of it, he might be leaving NJPW very soon and joining up with Kenny Omega.
Kota Ibushi hasn’t competed in a match since he lost to Kazuchika Okada in the G1 Climax 31 finals of New Japan Pro Wrestling in October 2021. He suffered a shoulder injury which forced him out of action and fans still don’t know when he will compete again.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kota Ibushi’s contract with NJPW will be expiring in January next year. Afterwards, there is a huge chance that he will join Kenny Omega in AEW.
“Kota Ibushi has been in light training in the ring of late and thus far the shoulder has held up well so that’s a good sign.
“His New Japan contract expires at the end of January and he made a tweet hinting at that.
“There was a lot of bad feelings over the past year but nothing is definite regarding staying or leaving at that point past he brought it up in a cryptic way about being a free agent in two months.”
Kota Ibushi also recently hinted at making his way to AEW. It remains to be seen whether Kota Ibushi really will make his way to AEW or not. It has been teased since 2019, so the possibility is certainly there.
