William Regal’s contributions to the pro wrestling world can never be understated, as he has truly given his entire life to the business. He was released from WWE at the very beginning of this year, which shocked many. He debuted in AEW, but it might have ended up being a short run. In fact, AEW had other plans when it came to writing Regal off television.
MJF and William Regal unveiled a brand new AEW World Championship during Dynamite this week. However, MJF turned on Regal and put him in the hospital after a vicious attack from the back.
Regal was effectively written off AEW television. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were a couple of other plans to write Regal out of AEW that were ultimately nixed.
There were different ideas debated including one favored by a number of key people, although all ideas were that MJF would end up as champion.
Others were also for Regal to turn with him on Moxley and then be turned back to set up MJF vs. Danielson, to set up his leaving.
Others were not so heavily involving Regal although they still felt they needed to write him out. There were just different explanations of how to end up in basically the same direction, with MJF as champion, Danielson as the next major contender, and Regal out of the picture.”
It is also believed that William Regal will return to WWE in a backstage role. We will have to wait and see whether Regal will end up working under Triple H or not.
