Triple H and Stephanie McMahon emerged as the real-life power couple in the pro wrestling world. The billion dollar princess currently leads the WWE management as co-CEO while Triple H took over the reins from Vince McMahon as Head of Creative. However, former WWE superstar Chris Jericho revealed nixed plans for a storyline with The Game and his wife.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were paired as an on-screen married couple during early 2000s in WWE storyline. The duo later on married in real-life on 2002. However, Triple H was out of action back in 2001 due to a torn left quadriceps injury, sidelining him for several months.
The 14-time World champion made his return in January 2002, winning that year’s Royal Rumble match and began a feud with Chris Jericho for the Undisputed WWE championship. However Jericho pitched some ideas for the feud ahead of Triple H’s grand return back to the ring.
Chris Jericho further stated that one of his ideas involved the current ‘Ucho’ having an on-screen affair with Triple H’s wife, Stephanie McMahon. This was pitched to gain massive heat from the crowd leading up to the rivalry. Y2J elaborated about the idea in his book “Undisputed: How to Become the World Champion in 1,372 Easy Steps.”
“The story would begin after HHH returned at the Royal Rumble. He would be in the ring on RAW telling the fans how great it was to be back when I would come out to confront him and give him some serious news. In the seven months he was away from the WWE, his wife, Stephanie, was having an affair. I was only telling him about it because I obviously had a huge dislike for Steph and did some serious detective work in order to bust her. In the course of my investigation, I’d found out that she was having an affair with RVD,”
Chris Jericho further stated that he would have planted a hidden camera in Stephanie’s bed with the footage showing that McMahon was in bed with a man with a long ponytail, leaving her husband Triple H fuming as he watched. The mystery man would later be revealed to be Y2J himself as he would roll over with Stephanie in bed with him, giving the opening for Jericho to attack The Game with a sledgehammer.
“I thought Stephanie having an affair with her former worst enemy was the perfect twist to the story. She would justify her actions by saying, ‘You know how hard it is for a woman to be on the road by herself—she has needs! Needs that can only be satisfied by a champion.’ I would justify my actions by saying I knew that HHH would be returning to gain revenge for me causing him to tear his quad in the first place. Therefore I needed to gain a psychological edge against him, and what better way to do that than by shtuping his wife?”
The plans were axed by former WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, as he believed that Triple H’s on-screen character would already be aware about the betrayal of his wife. Therefore, Jericho’s idea was turned down and the storyline never made it to WWE television programming.
