Update: Dave Meltzer has corrected his previous report to say that William Regal actually inked a three-year deal with AEW in 2022.

Original: William Regal was released by WWE during a slew of cuts that seemed to be aimed at Triple H. It didn’t take Tony Khan long to ink an AEW contract with Regal, and now one of Triple H’s closest work friends is with the competition. Triple H might already have a plan to fix this situation.

During the hype for Survivor Series WarGames, Triple H sent out a tweet that was 100% a nod at how amazing it would be to hear William Regal announce “WARGAMES” once again. There could have been a lot more behind that tweet.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed William Regal’s situation. It turns out that Regal’s AEW contract is keeping him in AEW, but it might not be for as long as other deals with Tony Khan’s company.

“I would just say that when his contract is up, it would not surprise me. Tony Khan can make him a better offer, but it is certainly something that’s been discussed, I will say that.”

“His contract is not up for a long time. I mean, I think it was only a one-year deal, but it’s not. I don’t wanna give a date, I was told a date, and it might be wrong, but it was still several months away.”

“I’ll put it this way. He’s not going back this week unless Tony lets him out of his contract. I mean, and I suppose, I don’t know, that’s a bad precedent to set, but maybe for Regal he’d do it, because Regal’s not going to be a wrestler if he goes back there, and he may not even be on television, he’ll probably be an office person.”

“I’ll put it this way. It’s certainly something that’s up in the air. It’s not a non-story. That’s probably the best way to put it right now.”

We’ll have to see what happens with William Regal in AEW. He is currently involved in a high-profile storyline where he just screwed Jon Moxley out of the AEW World Title to side with MJF. It is not impossible to picture both MJF and William Regal in WWE, but William Regal won’t have to wait until 2024 to make that decision.
