AEW has come very far since its inception back in 2019, especially when it comes to overall presentation and match quality. However, not everything about the company gets praise from fans. This includes the roster being bloated, something that Shawn Spears addressed recently.

There is no doubt that AEW has a very deep and diverse roster of talented in-ring performers from all over the world, incorporating various styles of pro wrestling. Unfortunately, AEW’s roster has become too big for its own good as fans now feel the roster is bloated and out of control.

While speaking during the K&S WrestleFest, Shawn Spears shot down the idea that Tony Khan doesn’t release AEW talent due to the fear that they will go join WWE.

“I will say that Tony Khan is not afraid of anything. During the pandemic when a lot of people were being let go or a lot of people couldn’t get work on the independent scene and everything was being shut down, Tony was keeping those independent guys getting paid,” Spears said. “He’s more generous than a lot of people think.”

Tony Khan also boasted that AEW made the pro wrestling business hotter. Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether AEW will end up releasing more talent in the future or not.
