Saraya is the most recent pro wrestler to make an incredible comeback from a serious neck injury that she sustained in 2017. She recently received an all-clear for the terrible injury after signing with Tony Khan’s promotion. However, there are multiple online rumors that have surfaced regarding how she received medical clearance to compete in AEW.
Saraya recently made an appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, where she discussed the process that finally led to her in-ring return. She cleared things up that it wasn’t a team of doctors giving her the green light, but Dr. Sampson and Tony Khan wanted to make sure it was done “the right way.”
“I feel I have to clear this up because I feel like the internet just creates their own stories about how I was cleared and who cleared me. So people think I went to multiple doctors. I didn’t. I went to one doctor. You know, AEW doctors, Dr. Sampson, and also Tony Khan, they were like, ‘We can’t let you wrestle until we know you are a thousand percent cleared.’ They did it the right way.”
At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Saraya joined Khan’s promotion on September 21st, three months after her WWE contract reportedly came to an end. She unexpectedly made an appearance after a deadly four-way match involving Toni Storm, Serena Deeb, Athena, and Baker for the AEW Interim World Women’s Championship.
We’ll have to see what’s next for Saraya, after beating Britt Baker at Full Gear, the AEW landscape seems open for possibilities.
