AEW has certainly gone through a lot of development and changes since 2019. This includes the company introducing interim titles, which remain a controversial decision even now. After Thunder Rosa was just stripped of her title, and the company changed their own championship history, the question remains how Tony Khan’s company considers these decisions.

The whole title picture surrounding Jon Moxley and CM Punk’s AEW World Title situation was also confusing. The AEW Women’s Championship picture was under more scrutiny, as Thunder Rosa was still the champion despite being out of action due to injury.

In the end, Thunder Rosa forfeited her title and Jamie Hayter was officially recognized as the AEW Women’s Champion. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained AEW’s mentality when it came to Interim Championships in the company.

With Punk, Punk was supposed to hold the title through that period, so that’s one of the reasons they did it that way. Because Moxley really wanted that championship reign, and he ended up getting another one because of what happened with Punk, but because of that you know they ended up Moxley getting an official reign, and then Punk was supposed to get an official reign back and everything like that. I think that’s kind of unofficially the mentality that if it’s a few months we’ll do the interim title, if it’s like 6 months, it’s too long.

We will have to wait and see whether the company will end up having more interim titles in the future or not. Fans would be happier if the concept was done away with for good.
